Marston Pavilion Interior Visualization
Marston Pavilion Ballroom Interior Renovations
The best interior designers have an innate ability to visualize a room, and can quickly transform the look and feel of an entire room or facility in their minds. Regrettably, designers cannot pass on this mental image to their clients, and therefore may sometimes find it difficult to ‘sell’ their vision to clients. Fortunately for designers, preVision Company can bring ideas to life with three-dimensional previsualization technology.
The Project: U.S. Marines Corps Grand Ballroom Facility Renovation
Heather Robinson, ASID, LEED AP, of Within Interior Design Inc. in Hampton, Virginia began working with preVision Company for a facility renovation project for Camp Lejeune, a U.S. Marine Corps base in North Carolina. This facility known as the Marston Pavilion, features a lobby and two grand, formal ballrooms. The facility is an extremely popular wedding venue and is booked nearly 365 days per year hosting an average of eight wedding receptions each weekend.
Using the client’s initial ideas for the renovation, Heather developed innovative design plans including unique, custom lighting fixtures, detailed wallcoverings and carpeting that would enhance the facility. Her ideas would transform the facility into the grand ballroom style she felt the U.S. Marine Corps would appreciate.
‘Selling’ a Design Concept with Three-Dimensional Imagery
In this case, many of Heather’s ideas were new and innovative, and were at times difficult for the client to visualize.
Detail drafting (for proposed lighting fixtures) does not fully communicate the intent of the design.
Heather decided she needed to do something extraordinary to ensure that the project would move forward successfully. She therefore engaged preVision Company to provide three-dimensional images of the lobby and ballrooms to illustrate her recommendations.
In just five days, preVision Company provided Heather with precise images that not only incorporated the exact specifications of the lighting fixtures as provided by the manufacturer, but also included a custom-drawn depiction of the textured wallcoverings in high-resolution.

While Heather’s design was not what the client had originally envisioned, the 3D views of her design produced by preVision Company provided such exquisite and precise detail, she was able demonstrate the value of her ideas and gain client approval to move forward. More importantly, the images provided by preVision Company gave both Heather and the client greater confidence a smooth and successful renovation would be the result.
“Hundreds of drawings and hours of meetings could not have accomplished what the images from preVision did,” explains Heather. “For example, the client requested 16 individual ceiling light fixtures in the ballrooms. I was convinced three large fixtures would better suit the planned style and décor of the room.
The carpeting presented a particular challenge for this project as it was difficult to communicate the complex patterns in the lobby. preVision Company’s images allowed me to show the complete pattern configuration and ultimately move forward with the complete design for the room. This also provided the opportunity to preview several pattern configurations before arriving at a final design to present to the client. This unquestionably resulted in a better finished product and in the end, a happier client.”

“preVision Company’s 3D illustrations truly allow me to do better work for my clients, as it allows me to communicate new and innovative ideas that might otherwise be difficult to visualize.”

Unanticipated Benefit – Future Marketing Value
Not only did preVision Company’s 3D illustrations help make this renovation project a success, they also provided Heather with great marketing tools to demonstrate her work to future clients. With detailed high-resolution 3D views of her design, potential clients can now see the quality of her work and can anticipate the added value that 3D visualization would provide for their project.

Conclusion
Working with preVision Company, Heather was able to quickly communicate her vision for the Marston Pavilion Ballroom renovation project and gain the client’s support and confidence. Today, her vision continues as the renovation project becomes reality.
“Because of preVision Company’s extensive background in theatre set and lighting design, they have a keen understanding of principles and elements of design, which is an invaluable asset when partnering with an interior designer. Traditional sketches or design boards can never provide the level of detail that preVision Company offers, nor could they capture the true vision of an interior space the way these images did for me.”
